Let There Be Light [2017 - 2019]
Let There Be Light is a project comprising three works: a photographic series of the same name, a 1-hour and 20-minute video art piece, and a set of photographs titled "Accidents." This project examines the conditions of the formation of the image, questioning the ability of photography to create a reality rather than only depicting one.
The photographic series, taken in parks and urban nature spots in various locations worldwide during nighttime, features photographs taken in conditions where the photographer could barely see anything through the viewfinder, using film that was not sufficiently sensitive to light. This created negatives that are almost entirely transparent and devoid of images. Through the scanning process, the small amount of existing information in the negatives is retrieved, bringing the images back to life.
The video art piece features the gradual peeling of black paint from a glass surface. As the paint is removed, the light behind it slowly emerges, transforming the video from black to white, from darkness to light.
Accidents, the third part of the project, consists of a set of manipulated photographs that depict accidents both as photographic subjects and as part of the formation of the image.
